Minecraft as an Educational Tool

I had never considered the educational benefits of Minecraft.  Having viewed “Is Minecraft the Ultimate Educational Tool?” I can now see the benefits of game-based learning.

The teaching and learning opportunities are endless. Minecraft could be used in both individual and collaborative contexts.  Moreover, it could be used for both independent and guided learning. Learning in Minecraft can be faster than traditional methods of education, as children are often far more motivated and are generally proficient users of the game (Minecraft Wiki, 2013).

As an educator, I can see myself using Minecraft to develop the reading, writing, mathematic and social skills of my students.

The following link provides real world examples of how MinecraftEdu has been used by teachers in their classrooms.
